I started to work in the wine trade in France in the 1980s...

...At that time most wines imported into the UK were bought in bulk from small/medium-sized family producers or cooperatives and then blended and bottled to provide customers with a one-stop-shop for the wines of a whole region, or even multiple regions.

Now, I source authentic products with character, whose producers have a cultural and historical connection to their wine and the land from where it is produced.  The families of most of my suppliers have owned their vineyards for generations.

I am inspired by the idea that I can work with those small/medium-sized family producers to sell the wines they create, from vine to bottle, directly into the UK market.  In this way they can keep their best wines to bottle themselves; reserving inferior batches for the bulk buy & blend trade.

If you look on the labels you will see the names and addresses of these winegrowers, sometimes even their telephone numbers, in case you want to call before you visit.  There is no question of their provenance.

All my wines are “Fair Trade”, some are organic and most of the other French winegrowers use sustainable methods of viticulture known as “La Culture Raisonnée” - indicated by C.R. in the list, or under the guidelines of “Terra Vitis”.

If you are travelling to France, and would like meet the growers and sample their wine; give them a call or tell me, and I will contact them on your behalf.

Many producers belong to the “Confédération Nationale des Caves Particulières” (CNCP), an organisation which represents their interests and which lays down guidelines for good practice. Often printed on the label and/or capsule, this guarantees that the wine comes from a family-run farm, tending their own vines, picking and vinifying their own grapes, and bottling only these wines on their own premises.  In addition to this, the producer undertakes to develop their winemaking skills, while respecting traditional methods, and to give a warm welcome to all who wish to taste the fruits of their labours.
